The call for papers for the 2016 AMC Symposium is NOW CLOSED

About
The first AMC Symposium, to be hosted by the Angus McIntosh Centre for Historical Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh on 9-10 June 2016, focuses broadly on the theme of Historical Dialectology, with no restrictions to particular languages or historical periods.

Topic

We welcome abstract submissions on topics related to historical dialectology, including:

• Theory and methods
• Descriptive studies
• Comparative studies
• Language contact
• Sociolinguistic factors
• Building corpora and resources
• Visualising and exploring data
• Historical dialectology in the classroom

We particularly encourage submissions which showcase the corpora and atlases developed at the University of Edinburgh and hosted by the AMC, i.e. eLALME, LAEME, CoNE, LAOS. We also welcome submissions from postgraduate and doctoral students.

Presentation format

Presentation slots are 30 minutes (20-minute talk + 10-minute discussion).

Abstract submissions

Please submit abstracts* of up to 400 words (excluding references) via Easy Abs by 31 October, 2015. Submissions will be subjected to a double-blind peer-review processes. Please make sure that submitted files (.doc, .pdf, .txt, or .odt) are fully anonymised.

Notification of acceptance will be sent out by 31 January, 2016.

*No more than one individual and one co-authored paper per participant.

Additional information

The language of the conference is English.

Conference registration will be open from February 1st, 2016.

A hands-on workshop exploring the content and potential of the AMC corpora and atlases will take place on the Saturday (11 June) immediately following the Symposium.
