The AMC’s From Inglis To Scots (FITS) project has launched its new website at http://www.amc.lel.ed.ac.uk/fits/. The project surveys the variation in spelling within the earliest recorded period of Scots (1480-1500), based on data from A Linguistic Atlas of Older Scots. The project’s objective is to understand Older Scots’ sound system and trace it back, word by word, sound by sound and letter by letter to its sources in the different dialects of Old English, Old Norse and beyond.
The FITS database is still under development, but on the website you will find information on the project, Older Scots, the team, as well as a number of featured events and news items. Watch this space!
